- Since we only have one child
I thought I made a wise purchase when I bought a portable DVD player that came
with a carrying case that converts to a seat back mount. To my dismay I have
found that the player screen is not angled properly when my seat back is adjusted
to be comfortable for me. Also, my 4 year old takes great pleasure in kicking
the DVD player and I am worried that it will break. Does you product address
these concerns?
- Even with our portable DVD
player's volume control turned all the way up my kids still have trouble hearing
the audio track. What can I do?
- Is there a limit to the number
of sets of wireless headphones that can be used with the DV-Grip IR?
Q.
Will the DV-Grip fit in my car?
As long as your vehicle has adjustable front seat head restraints (head restraints
or rests that can be pulled up) the DV-Grip will most likely fit in your vehicle. DV-Grip's telescoping spreader bar can accommodate spans of 20 to 33 inches
between the inner posts of the driver and passenger front seat head restraints.
Q. My car has a bench style front
seat. Can I still use the DV-Grip?
Yes. If the distance between the inner posts of the driver side and passenger
side head restraints is between 20 and 33 inches the DV-Grip will work in your
vehicle regardless of seat type.
Q. Will the portable DVD player's
screen be angled towards the right or left side of the vehicle if the driver's
seat, relative to the front passenger's seat, is adjusted closer to the front
or rear of the vehicle?
No. The DV-Grip's player mounting platform pivots to allow proper orientation
of the player's screen even if the two front seats backs aren't positioned in
the same plane.
Q. You state that it takes seconds
to mount the DV-Grip. How long does it really take?
Seconds—really! Because the DV-Grip makes use of angled hooks at the ends
of a spring loaded telescoping spreader bar it takes about five seconds to mount
onto the front head restraint posts. Attaching the portable DVD player to the
pivoting mount platform with the elastic (bungee type) cord and the hook and
loop (Velcro type) strap takes between five and ten seconds. Therefore total
installation time is under fifteen seconds, regardless of the vehicle. Both the
DV-Grip and the DV-Grip IR come completely assembled; they are ready to use right
out of the package. Now that is hassle free!
Q. Sometimes while taking long
trips my wife needs to get to the back seat of our minivan in order to take care
of our three year old daughter. Because of this I am reluctant to mount a portable
DVD player between the two front seats. Does your product address this concern?
Yes. Installation and removal of the DV-Grip and mounting and removal
of the portable DVD player is so easy that either operation can be done by the
front seat passenger without disturbing the driver. Therefore, the DV-Grip allows
easy front passenger access to the rear of the vehicle to retrieve a dropped
bottle or to comfort a crying toddler. Portable DVD player cases that convert
to suspension type player mounts don't offer this benefit.
Q. Since we only have one child
Yes. The DV-Grip allows the screen to be positioned in any angle between
30 and 135 degrees (with 0 degrees being player screen closed) so adjusting the
screen for optimum visibility is as easy as opening the player screen. The DV-Grip
also mounts the DVD player roughly horizontal and at top of seat back height
so, unless your child has a black belt, kicking the DVD player will be next to
impossible.
Q. Even with our portable DVD
player's volume control turned all the way up my kids still have trouble hearing
the audio track. What can I do?
Portable DVD players have small speakers that don't perform very well. While
the volume may seem adequate when watching a disk in a small quite room, much
of the sound track is not coming through as the director intended. Put the player
in a vehicle that is traveling at 65 mph and the road and wind noise can easily
overpower the tiny speakers. There are 3 options for getting good sound out of
a vehicle mounted DVD player:
1. Purchase a FM modulator for broadcasting the
audio track through the vehicle's stereo system. Such FM modulators are available
is stores where electronic devices are sold, e.g. Best Buy, Circuit City, Target,
etc. and range in price from 20 to 50 dollars. The drawback to such devices is
that the driver and front seat passenger are forced to listen.
2. Use wired headphones and extension cables and splitters if required. Most
portable DVD players have two headphone jacks so two sets of headphones can plug
directly into the player. If more than two passengers want to watch, or if your
DVD player has only one headphone jack, headphone splitters can be used to get
the needed number of jacks.
Most headphones have cables that are 3 - 5 feet
long. In a large car, SUV, or van this cable length may be too short to plug
into the DVD player without pulling on the headphones. To increase comfort we
recommend either purchasing headphones with a longer cable (which is not always
easy to do) or using an extension cable. We offer a combination headphone splitter
/ 3 foot long extension cable for $4.95—see stock #54332.
There are a couple of disadvantages with using wired headphones in a vehicle,
especially if more than two passengers will be watching the DVD and/or the passengers
are six years old or younger. The wires tend to get tangled and disconnected. Also,
unless the headphones have separate volume controls, all passengers will be forced
to listen at the same volume level.
3) In our opinion, the best way for all vehicle occupants, including the driver,
to enjoy in-vehicle video is with wireless IR headphones. The viewing passengers
get to enjoy the DVD's sound track with phenomenal clarity and sound quality
at their own preferred volume level, and the driver and front passenger get to
enjoy their favorite music, audio book, or peace and quite.
There are two common types of wireless headphone
systems, infrared (IR) and radio frequency (RF). For in-vehicle entertainment
applications IR systems are by far the preferred choice mainly due to their immunity
to interference from other radio frequency sources. Wireless headphones require
a transmitter to broadcast the disc's audio track from the DVD player to the
receiver, which in this case is built into the headphones.
The DV-Grip IR has all of the features and benefits of the DV-Grip plus the added
convenience and performance of wireless IR headphones. The DV-Grip IR's integral
IR transmitter is mounted and wired for optimum performance and ease of use. Simply
plug the DV-Grip IR's input signal wire into one of the portable DVD player's
headphone jacks and plug the included 12 VDC power adapter into the vehicle's
12 VDC power (cigarette lighter) jack. Because the portable DVD player will
have to be powered via the player's 12 VDC power adapter two vehicle power jacks
are needed. If your vehicle only has one front power (cigarette lighter) jack,
splitters are available at auto parts and electronic device stores. Also, we
offer a 3-way 12 VDC power splitter for $12.95—see stock #54331.
Q. Is there a limit to the number
of sets of wireless headphones that can be used with the DV-Grip IR?
No. The only limit is the number of rear seated passengers that can fit
in your vehicle. The DV-Grip IR comes with two sets of wireless headphones. We
offer additional wireless headphones for $29.95 each—see stock #54330. |
